Cedar International School Athletics ___________
The Cedar International School physical education programme encourages all students to gain experience and skills in a variety of physical activities. Kindergarten students are encouraged to use a variety of equipment for exercise and for play. They learn to take turns and to play safely. Primary and secondary students are encouraged to participate at their individual optimum performance in both co-operative and competitive sports. The students learn track and field activities, football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cricket, field hockey, and rugby in addition to gymnastics, fun exercises and games. Sports history and health related studies are also included as part of the curriculum.
Cedar soccer teams play in tournaments in which under 19, 13, 9, and 7 year old boys and girls teams participate. Competitors include Virgin Gorda, Elmore Stoutt High School, Althea Scatliffe, Sea Cow's Bay and other local and off-island schools.
Annual sports day competitions take place every school year. Events include a secondary soccer tournament, Primary Sports Day and a Kindergarten Sports Day. The students are grouped into four house teams; the Dolphins, the Barracudas, the Stingrays and the Sharks. Parents and friends are invited to cheer on the students and watch contests of agility, speed and athletic performance. Students compete in a variety of events such as jump rope competitions, basketball shooting competitions, sprint races, long distance relay races and house team tug-of-wars. Sports Days are filled with great sportsmanship, team spirit, and FUN!
