The Cedar International School Health Program
We are pleased to introduce Cedar's school nurse, Mrs. Gail Cribbens. Mrs. Cribbens career started in 1975 when she successfully qualified as a General Nurse. From there she continued her nursing career as a staff nurse working within the independent sector until her two children were born. She returned to general surgery a year later to continue her career working within the high dependency unit orthopedics/gynecology wards, specializing in ear, nose and throat surgery.
In 1996 she returned to university to study child development, women's health and pediatric nursing. She became a Sister/Manager working on a busy day unit in charge of a team of nurses and then became the Pediatric lead for the hospital. Mrs. Cribbens moved on to Queen Elizabeth Hospital as Ward Manager/Deputy Matron and set up the pediatric unit for child admissions and surgical procedures which also involved writing policies and procedures and continuous development of the staff training. After three years, she then became the Out Patients Manager and continued her studies at university to become lead Infection Control Sister for the hospital. Her team roles included facilitating and coordinating the mandatory training and child safety for the staff within the hospital, working closely with the consultant pediatricians and general surgeons and undergoing training in immunization and CPR.
Mrs.Cribbens has been married for 34 years to her husband, Steve and they have two grown children living in the UK. She and her husband moved to Tortola last November. Her hobbies include art, painting, swimming, reading and animal welfare. Mrs. Cribbens is looking forward to offering her experience for the health and well being of all students at Cedar International School. Please take a moment to read her 2009-2010 Health Welcome letter below.
As many of you will remember, we have several students with food allergies, some which are potentially life threatening. We ask that you discuss this with your child and encourage them not to share their food with friends. In particular, we ask that you do not allow peanut products into the lunch boxes. Please also check with the class teacher before bringing in food for special occasions.
Letters concerning health related issues will be posted on this page after hardcopies/electronic copies have been sent to parents and guardians for future reference. We appreciate your support and cooperation in assisting us in providing a safe and healthy learning environment for all our children.
