BOSTON TRIP

A Cedar Tradition - Grade 10 Students Explore Historic Boston

Every year the Grade 10 class sets off to the historic city of Boston for a six day historical, sporting and cultural tour. Chaperoned by Secondary teachers, the students are given the opportunity to experience a variety of historical and cultural sites, theatrical and sporting performances, as well as local and international culinary delights! The students are required to complete activities based on the places they visit, as well as write individual reflections on their experiences.

Some of the highlights of the trip include:

·   Exploring the historical and cultural quarters of Boston, following the famous Freedom Trail.  The Freedom Trail included stops at the Old South Meeting House and the site of the Boston Massacre.

·    Watching a live Boston Celtics’ basketball match at the famous TD Gardens Stadium.

·    Working at a community farming initiative called The Food Project in Walden Pond.

·    Watching a Blue Man Group performance at the Charles Street Playhouse.

·   A trip to The Plimoth Plantation Village in which students are able to experience life in Plymouth in the 17th Century.

·  A visit to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston Central which affords students the opportunity to see famous works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin and Andy Warhol.

·   Visiting The New Bedford Whaling Museum and further deepening students’ understanding of the 18th century whaling industry and Herman Melville’s famous novel, Moby Dick.

After the whirlwind tour of Boston, students return to Tortola full of memories and stories to tell. By visiting the various historical, environmental and cultural sites, students realize the importance of preserving history and culture for future generations.  They also realize how, as multi-cultural students, they have a responsibility to learn from one another and share their own histories and cultural practices.
